Dan King- Turner – age 24

New Zealand current Number 1 Men’s player, King-Turner came through the Canterbury Development programme in the late 90’s before embarking on his international career.

Ellen Barry - age 19

Currently Ellen is almost recovered from a wrist injury which has sidelined her for over a month. Ellen is back hitting and hopes to be back playing the circuit by early September.
Ellen reached a career high junior world ranking of 25.

James Meredith - age 18

James was recently named Player of the Year in Canterbury.

The winner of 2 singles and 3 doubles ITF titles to date in 2008 James also qualified for the 2008 Australian Junior Open.

Jordan Kelly Houston – age 17

Won his 3rd title for the year when he defeated James Meredith in the Darwin ITF now at a career high junior ranking. The 2nd half of 2008 is all about working towards qualification for the Australian Junior Open and other possible Grand Slams in 2009.

Logan Mackenzie - age 18

Beaten semi final finalist in last years Oceania Closed Championships - Logan is currently New Zealand’s highest ranked Junior player. He’ll be looking for another strong performance in this years event. Qualified for the Australian Junior Open in 2008.

Barrett Franks - age 16

Won New Caledonia Grade 5 ITF junior event, his first ITF title, then defeated by Kelly-Houston in the higher graded Fiji ITF. Barrett has an impressive 24 win / 7 loss record to date in 2008 Junior ITF events.

Barrett is the current 16 National Boys Hardcourt Champion.

Alice Laing - age 16

Like Leela Beattie has just returned from a great experience in Spain as part of the Tennis NZ Project Europe. Alice returned to pick up valuable points at both Fiji and Auckland.

Alice is the current 16 National Girls Hardcourt Champion.

Hayden Joblin - age 16

After making the final of the ITF New Zealand 18u Doubles Championships this year Hayden has gained a world ranking that will qualify him for a number of tournaments for the next 12 months. Hayden, previously from Wellington, will also be targeting making the Canterbury Boys 16’s Teams defence of their title in Jan 09.

Richard Hornby - age 15

A beaten semi finalist with Jaden Grinter in the ITF New Zealand 18u Champs recently - Richard can now focus on lowering his world ranking throughout the rest of the year.

Artem Vassiliev - age 15

A loss at the ¼ final stage of the doubles in the Fiji ITF was enough to secure Artem his first world junior ranking.

Artem continues to get stronger and remains in the top juniors of his age in New Zealand.

Maddie Clarke - age 15

Maddie is the only member of the Canterbury Regional Squads to gain a World Junior ranking in 2008 to date – this means she will find it easier to enter ITF events for the next 12 months.

Maddie plays Senior Interclub for Waimairi and is hoping to make the Canterbury Girls 16’s team in January 2009.

Leela Beattie - age 14

Leela has just returned from Tennis New Zealand’s Project Europe Trip. Leela is making the transition to playing more ITF events now after a stellar domestic agegroup career.

Leela gained her first singes and doubles ITF points in February and also collected doubles points in Darwin in July.

Katherine Westbury - age 15

Now living in Australia – Katherine was an inaugural member of the Canterbury Performance Squad.

Katherine has continued her development playing high quality tournaments throughout Asia and the rest of the world.
