ITF World Cup: Canterbury Seniors

Canterbury Seniors who played in ITF World Cup Teams Events.

1988:
At the East Asia Veterans’ Tournament held in Hong Kong Bill Thom (Canterbury) and Alan Chester (Auckland) represented New Zealand.

1991 Young Cup (Women 40+):
At the Young Cup held in Brisbane Diana Lonie was selected and captained the team.

1991 Maria Esther Bueno Cup (Women 50+):
Kathy Hargreaves and Diana McKinnel (captain) played in Perth.

1991 Brittania Cup (Men 65+):
At the Brittania Cup held in Canberra Australia Andrew Hunter was selected and played.

1994:
In October at the Asia Open Veterans’ Tournament in Pattaya, Thailand Robyn Legge-Hunt won the 40+ Women’s Singles Title and was runner-up with Diana Lonie in the 40+ Women’s Doubles. She then went on to Singapore and at the Singapore Open, Robyn (seeded 3rd) won the 40+ Singles Title, beating Christine Dorey (Australia) who was the top seed and ranked 7th in the ITF World Ranking, in the semi-final. She again teamed up with Diana Lonie to win the 40+ Women’s Doubles beating the 2nd seeds.

1995 Von Cramm Cup (Men 60-65):
Don Taylor was selected to play in the Von Cramm Cup in Portschach, Austria.

1997 Austria Cup (Men 55+):
At the Austria Cup played in Canberra 6-11 April Ron Bruce and Bill Thom were selected.

1997 Maureen Connolly Cup (Women 55+):
Kathy Hargreaves was selected to play in the team in Canberra 6-11 April.

1997 Von Cramm Cup (Men 60+):
Tom Tyler was selected in the team that played in Hamilton April 6-11.

Britannia Cup (Men 65+):
Also played in Hamilton April 6-11

It was the first time ever the NZVTA was invited by ITF to hold two World Championship events.

1998 Von Cramm Cup (Men 60+):
Don Taylor was selected and played at Fort Lauderdale Florida.

1999 Britannia Cup (Men 65+):
This was held at the Lafranc Tennis Club on the Costa Brava, Spain and Don Taylor was selected in the team.

1999 Margaret Court Cup (Women 45+):
Diana Lonie (captain) and Robyn Legge-Hunt were selected and played in Holland 8-14 August. Before the cup they played in the Dutch Open where Robyn was runner-up in the 45+ Women’s Singles and Diana won the 50+ Women’s Singles. On the way home via London they played in a tournament at Eastbourne where Robyn won the 45+ Women’s Singles and teamed up with Diana to win the Women’s Doubles.

2002 Von Cramm Cup (Men 60+):
Ron Goodman was selected to play in St Kanzian Southern Austria 9-14 September.

2005 Dubler Cup (Men 45+):
This was held in Perth 27 March-1 April and Peter Hampton (captain) and Jack Prouting were selected.

2005 Fred Perry Cup (Men 50+):
Played in Perth 27 March-1 April and Marty Searle was selected.

2005 Margaret Court Cup (Women 45+):
An all Canterbury team, Robyn Flynn (captain), Lindsay Dick and Louise Payne played 27 March-1 April in Perth.

Maureen Connelly Cup (Women 55+):
Robyn Legge-Hunt (captain) and Diana Lonie were selected and played in Perth 27 March-1 April.

2007 Brittania Cup (Men 65+):
The Super Senior World Team Event was hosted by Canterbury Tennis. Bill Thom was selected and played in this event held at the Ahburton Trust Tennis Centre.

2007 Gardner Mulloy Cup (Men 80+):
Andrew Hunter and Lindsay Blackwell were selected but were not available to play.

2008 Margaret Court Cup (Women 45+):
Robyn Legge-Hunt (captain) and Judy Phillips were selected to play in Antalya in Turkey 12-18 October.

2008 Brittania Cup (Men 65+):
Bill Thom was selected and played in this event to be held in Antalya in Turkey 12-18 October.

2008 Jack Crawford Cup (Men 70+):
Don Taylor (captain) was selected to play in the 70+ team in Antalya in Turkey 1-18 October but the team was withdrawn.

2011 Italia Cup (Men 35+):
Alistair Hunt (captain) and Remi Feneon selected, cup played in Christchurch.

2011 Tony Trabert Cup (Men 40+):
Glen Wilson (captain) selected, cup played in Timaru.

2011 Fred Perry Cup (Men 50+):
Peter Hampton (captain) selected, cup played in Christchurch.

2011 Austria Cup (Men 55+):
Marty Searle selected, cup played in Ashburton.

2011 Suzanne Lenglen Cup (Women 35+):
Joelene Feneon selected, but the team was withdrawn. Cup played in Timaru.

2011 Margaret Court Cup (Women 45+):
Ruth Seeman and Thersea Graham selected, cup played in Christchurch.

2011 Maria Esther Bueno (Women 50+):
Sally Moorfield selected, cup played in Ashburton.

2011 Maureen Connolly Cup (Women 55+):
Robyn Legge-Hunt selected, cup played in Asburton.
