Seniors Tournaments & Rep Matches
Top of the South Quadrangular Tournament:
Top of the South Quadrangular Tournament was played over the weekend of the
20-21 August 2011 at the Pollard Park Complex in Blenheim. Teams of eight men
and women from Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury Country took part
in this hard fought event. Good tennis, beautiful weather and the renewing old
friendships made it a very enjoyable weekend. Nelson won the tournament with
Canterbury Country second and Canterbury third.
Results:
Canterbury beat Marlborough 10 matches to 6
Canterbury lost to Nelson 13 matches to 3
Canterbury lost to Canterbury Country 12 matches to 4
Teams:
Women: Diana Lonie, Yumiko Yoshikawa, Alison Coats, Pat Johnson, Sandra Devlin,
Ritzy Gillespie, Julie Barker and Ann-Marie Halliday.
Men: Colin Hunt, Marty Searle, Andy Bramwell, George Carnoutsos, Allen Cannan,
John Dunbier, James Callaghan and Howard Wilson (Ellesmere).
55+ Teams Tournament:
The 55+ Teams Tournament was played at the Edgar Sports Centre in Dunedin on
09-11 September. Teams of eight men and women from Canterbury, Canterbury
Country, South Canterbury, Otago, Otago Country and Southland battled it out for
honours. The Otago Country team won this very enjoyable tournament.
It was good opportunity to renew old friendships and make new ones. Thanks to
Ian Jones once again for his usual great organisation.
Tennis was the focus of the day but at night they morphed into ardent rugby
fans. Some players even managed to obtain tickets for the England v Argentina
rugby match.

Johnson, Alison Fifield, Gale Foster and Judy Chambers.
Men: Neil Patterson, Paul Judkins, Trevor Daly, Richard Wilding (West Coast),
Paul Davidson (West Coast), Brian Blackman (West Coast), Roly Mackley and fills
in from North Otago for the eighth man.
Canterbury Tennis Seniors August Tournament:
The Canterbury Seniors August tournament was played over two Sundays, the
men’s and women’s doubles on the 7th August and the mixed doubles on the 14th
August.
Entries were very good with 56 players in the doubles tournament and 48 in the
mixed doubles. The draws were very even and we were treated to some excellent
tennis on both days. Both days were interrupted by the weather, rain on the
doubles day and hail on the mixed doubles day. Play was not delayed for long and
we were soon back on the courts. After adverse conditions predicted for the
mixed doubles we were very fortunate to get the day finished. Well done
everyone.
Prize giving on both days was very relaxed and enjoyable.
